Television

Some people think that we can put just about anything in the trash.

Are you one of them?Do not put your old television on the sidewalk.

  WHY?

Televisions contain lead, a highly hazardous waste that is toxic for human health. And it doesn't contain a little of it, there are an average of 8 pounds of lead for each TV!

Most cities do not pick up televisions and you are risking to get a fine if an inspector find a television in front of your door.

Not recycling a television is not about the law, its about morality.

Lead intoxication leads to diseases such as Alzheimer that millions of people struggle to fight years after year.

Don't be part of the problem - Become part of the solution !

To have a TV recycled by PC Recycle, there is a cost of $20,00 for a television of a diagonal dimension inferior to 31 inches and a cost of $30,00 for a television of a diagonal dimension superior than 32 inches. If you want us to come and pick up your equipment, be aware that there is a transport fee of $75,00 per pickup.Of course, if you bring your material yourself to our facilities, only recycling fees will apply.

Why are there any charges?

PC Recycle is an ethical responsible company with environmental questions. Since we are member of the Canadian Association of Recycling Industries, we must abide by a strict code of rules prohibiting us to illegally export or landfill e-waste.

To respect our code of honor, we must:

  • Disassemble televisions locally – by local employees.
  • Separate the intoxicated glass and ship it to the appropriate recycler – even if we have to pay expensive fees to get it properly recycled.
  • Warehousing televisions in an appropriate way to make sure that natural elements such as sun and rain won’t attack their physical integrity, making them potentially hazardous for human health and the environment.

All these steps carry a cost. If someone offers you a free recycling service, the lead contaminated glass will most probably end up in a landfill somewhere. Before letting anyone recycle your television, make sure that:

  • The recycler is accredited by an association on top of being a member of Recyc-Quebec. ( Recyc Quebec does not audit its members and their business practices at the present time
  • almost anyone can become part of their directory)
  • The recycler has a physical business location. (A lot of wannabe-recyclers operate their recycling business from a mini-storage place and a cell phone. They will try to sell what they can of your material and the rest will most probably end up landfilled.
