When we buy a cell phone, we already know its due to either break or become « obsolete » in a matter of months. Consumers are pushed to change their device all the time by electronic recellers and cellular phone companies who will make sure to hook you on a contract in exchange to give you or sell you for a cheap price the hottest cellular phone available.
Cellular phones have become a fashion accessories amongst people of all age, and we don't necesarly think about how it is important to recycle these devices. Only a few people are aware that cellular phones contain some of the most toxic chemicals that can be found on the planet. Most of us just leave the cell phones in a drawer or some other place, and chances are that they will be sent to trash at some time.
Mobile phones are made with lithium batteries and contain also Polymethyl Methacrylate, silicon dioxide, polyoxymethelyne and brominated flame retardants, to name a few. All these chemicals and components of cell phones are either non-degradable or extremely damageable for the eco-systems.
